History of the nonprofit
The Catalina D.R. Foundation was founded in September 2009 by Ashleigh Moller, a loyal employee of Hotel La Catalina with a dream of helping the people of the Dominican Republic.
Ashleigh has been traveling to the Dominican Republic for many years to visit her father, Tim Moller, a 12-year resident who has been involved in a variety of charitable projects in the country and is now the owner of the Hotel La Catalina. Many of Ashleigh's vacations were spent helping her father to supply orphanages with food from his big red pick-up truck, and she quickly learned the importance of helping others. After graduating from college with a degree in Behavioral Science in 2007, Ashleigh moved to the Dominican Republic to continue the journey of service she and her father had begun.
Today, Tim and Ashleigh, along with a dedicated board and amazing volunteers have joined forces to run the Catalina D.R. Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the local community of Cabrera. The foundation focuses on addressing the diverse needs of the local, rural community that surrounds the hotel. Project based initiatives include; rebuilding an under deserved, under resourced local public school, maternal health, education programs, "adopt a family", and educational programs that serve more than 222 students of the public schools of Cabrera.
As described in our mission statement, Catalina D.R. seeks to help the community of Cabrera in the areas of public health and education. We believe that quality public health and education are fundamentals that everyone deserves and it is our goal to improve these services. Through valued relationships with the local community, we have been able to form strategic partnerships that allow us to sustainable and effectively implement these critical community programs.
